Was selected by Jerle Shannara to join the company searching for the Black Elfstone. He and Preia Starle scouted the land ahead before Retten went on to the Sarandanon to make sure the horses and supplies were ready.³First King of Shannara – pp 150-156

Retten never returned and they found him later at an Elven outpost that had been taken over by Gnomes. He had been hung from a barn door and was barely alive. Knowing that his injuries were too severe to survive, Tay used his magic to stop Retten’s heart.⁴First King of Shannara – pp 191-193
