Whistledown Tavern

Whistledown Tavern was owned by Padishar Creel and managed by Matty Roh.¹The Talismans of Shannara – p 95 It was located in the centre of Varfleet on Wyvern Split.²The Talismans of Shannara – p 85 It had a weather-beaten wooden sign with a carved flute and foaming tankard over its name. The building was made of slat boards, like the other buildings around it, and shared a common wall with the buildings on either side. Three stories high, with curtained windows on the second and third floors where the sleeping rooms were – for either the owners and their families or for hire.³The Talismans of Shannara – p 86

The inside of the tavern was plain and sparsely furnished. The floors were clean, the wooden trim on the serving bar was polished to a high sheen, the tables, chairs and stools were arranged neatly and there was a smell of cedar chips and lacquer throughout the place. Ale casks shone in their racks behind the serving bar. There were glass doors and metal trim on the tankard cupboard. A pair of heavy swinging doors were at the end of the serving bar. A massive stone fireplace was on the wall to the left and a narrow staircase took up most of the wall to the right. Serving bowls and cleaning cloths were stacked on the counter. Additionally, there were bunches of wild-flowers in large vases on shelves bracketing the ale casks and tankard cupboard.⁴The Talismans of Shannara – pp 86-87
