Gentle rolling hills lay between the Duln Forest and Shady Vale.1The Sword of Shannara – p 7

The houses were long, low structures with only a ground floor beneath slightly sloping roofs, which in most instances tapered off to shelter a small veranda supported by heavy poles affixed to a long porch. They were constructed of wood with stone foundations, some with stones fronts. The windows were wide with wooden frames.2The Sword of Shannara – pp 11-12
